Halloween Costume 911

Halloween 2010- a year that will be remembered for Lady Gagas & Jersey Shore cast members.  While these trendy costume ideas promise to make for an entertaining holiday (what’s better than a night of outrageous Gaga-inspired outfits, The Situation blow-outs, & Snooki hair bumps?), what are the rest of us going to be? With Halloween less than two weeks away, time is running out to hunt down the perfect costume. (more…)

Kisses for Kyle Wins The Golden (Plough) Ticket

Peddler's Village & BH toast Sharon Snyder of Kisses for Kyle

Last month, we announced that Kisses for Kyle won the grand prize in the Peddler’s Village Online Scarecrow Competition.  In just their first year entering the Peddler’s Village competition & display, the local charity’s founder, Sharon Snyder, was thrilled to take home the grand online prize, an overnight stay at the Golden Plough Inn donated by Peddler’s Village (valued at $325)!

Almost a decade ago, after the tragic loss of her son to Leukemia, Sharon Snyder founded Kisses for Kyle.  She bravely channeled her grief into a passion for helping the families of children with Leukemia. Her experience showed her first-hand how difficult it is to receive the necessary financial and emotional support while caring for a child battling cancer.  Along with many volunteers, Sharon works day and night to run events and programs to assist these families. A Local's Guide to Peddler's Village

Yes- Peddler’s Village is one of Bucks County’s biggest tourist destinations (and we are so thankful that it helps bring so many people down to our beautiful part of Pennsylvania). Over the last year, however, I’ve gotten the chance to see the other side of Peddler’s Village- the side where local shop owners serve the community day in and day out.  I admit that initially I was surprised to find out that so many shops in the village offer products and services that I use everyday, yet I had never considered stopping in Lahaska on a regular old weekday.  I am so happy, though, that I opened my eyes and hope more people will uncover the hidden local gems within Peddler’s Village. Here are some of my favorites: (more…)

A Day as an HGTV Judge

A few weeks back, Bucks Happening posted about HGTV looking for local judges to participate in a pilot episode of their new show, which happened to be taped in Bucks County.  Always ones to seek out interesting experience, the BH team immediately applied, and a few days later we were scheduled to shoot Sunday, September 19th.

We arrived “make-up ready” at the Heritage Homes in Furlong, PA where two re-designed town-homes awaited our reactions.  We were part of a crowd of about fifty local judges brought in for the episode in charge of deciding which design best appeals to it’s target-market.  The task for us was simple- walk into each home, give our opinions on each design, & vote for a favorite. Of course we were not told anything about the designers until after the votes were cast, and in true HGTV fashion there were a few other surprises in store for us. (more…)

Bucks County's Own Judith: Judith Renstrom

Judith Renstrom

A necklace by Judith Renstrom

Some months ago, I began working with the Heritage Conservancy, which has been so rewarding and fun.  One of the side benefits of volunteering for a great local organization is meeting new and interesting people.  Judith Renstrom is one of those interesting people.  As we sat in a planning meeting, I couldn’t help but notice the modern and distinctive jewelry that Judith wore.  Just being in the same room with her, I sensed that she was an artist.  Later on, one of the other women in the group told me that she in fact was a jewelry designer.  After getting to know Judith a little better, I realized that I just had to share her talent with the BH readers. Wash Tyme-Cleaning with Meaning

Recycle, Repurpose, Reuse—for the people of WashTyme soaps, these are words to live by.  In a world that has become so blinded by how efficient we can be, we forget sometimes how important it is to consider the products we are using and what processes were used to make said products.  In many cases, there may be only one possible resource to make a product.  In most, however, recycled materials can be used to create very useful, everyday materials.  Wash Tyme is one of those products.
