On a weekly basis in Bucks County, there is always something fun to do. There are two themes that we decided to highlight this week; cultural fun and free fun. As most members of Bucks can attest to, there is plenty of culture and history to each and every town. Two really great events really jumped out at us this week, the New Hope Arts and Biergarten Evening. We are certainly looking forward to a fantastic weekend. Free movies and shows at TD Bank Ampitheatre and Sellersville theatre will keep families and friends entertained during the first week back to school. Enjoy the last weekend of summer and keep the fun going for the kids as they get back into the classrooms! (more…)
Tucked away down a tiny alley in Lambertville, you will find a small, unassuming bar called The Boat House. If you’ve never been to the Hamilton Grill Room (located just across the street) or heard about the bar from a friend, you may not know this hidden gem exists. However, without any signs on the main road, any listings in the local publications, or even a website, The Boat House seems perfectly content remaining a secret.
Despite their lack of advertising, a steady crowd of Boat House enthusiasts are always in attendance in the tiny, cluttered shack of a bar. Unlike most suburban bars, The Boat House doesn’t serve any food. They don’t even have a drink menu. In fact, the bar feels almost like you’re visiting a long lost quirky relative with a well-stocked bar. You can always count on a limited but great selection of beers, wines, & liquors available. If you’re lucky, they’ll even put out some sourdough pretzels. (more…)

In my brief 23 years of life on this beautiful planet, I have made three generally poor assumptions; 1: women will flock to me because I think they will 2. Employers will jump at the chance to have me even though they don’t know me, and 3. I’m extraordinarily good looking. Yes, I have fooled some with my charm and unenviable perseverance, but the truth of the matter is no man is safe behind the merit of his words. What really resonates in the ear of “I’m out of your league” ladies, “you’re a bit under-qualified” employers, and even your own wishful thinking has always been a clean haircut. Yes, a haircut. You may say to yourself, “I like my haircuts. They do a good job”. At first glance this may be true, but the overall experience when getting a cut can make a world of difference. John’s Barber Shop in Newtown, PA makes that world of difference.
As my husband and I descended upon the Annual Quick Check NJ Festival of Ballooning, we realized how excited and how lucky we were! Going in, the evening was a great way to beat the heat. We invested in the VIP package and right away we knew it was the right decision. We had priority parking, a food/beverage concession area (which wasn’t crowded!) air conditioned bathrooms, and a tented area to sit and watch the balloons ascend!
It was an awesome sight to see the balloons at dusk filling with hot air and lifting off so gracefully! One by one they took flight. The sight brought me back to my childhood as I was always pleasantly surprised by a view of multiple hot air balloons when visiting parent’s friends! I’ve always enjoyed the sight of hot air balloons. No matter where I may be, if I should spot one – it brings me back to childhood and stops me in my tracks. (more…)

Last night, BH attended the grand re-opening of the Face & Body Spa in Yardley PA. This is third time in 3 years that the startup has outgrown their space on Main Street (if only we could all have that challenge)! I had been to the FBSPA once, back when it was in its original location across from the Canal Street Grill), and really did enjoy my massage. But WOW have they grown in three years! (more…)

Sun in the sky, a sea of purple flowers swaying against rich green grass, Lake Galena sparkling just steps away, & the scent of lavender in the air- does it get any better than this? A morning at Peace Valley Lavender Farm is truly a piece of heaven in Bucks County.
Owners Patty & George began planting their lavender fields 11 years ago, after a successful Bucks County farming career in organic vegetable cultivation. Their gift shop opened just a year after planting their first seeds, offering a wide variety of lavender products- from pillow spray to essential oils to lavender chocolate bars. Last Thursday, we joined a group of seniors on a tour of the farm, smelling a variety of delicious scents & learning tons of interesting information along the way. (more…)
