At Bucks Happening, we’re always looking for ways to improve our health and wellness. We’ve tried acupuncture, a variety of exercise activities all around Bucks County, and our most recent adventure- a dietary cleanse. Suffering from frequent migraine headaches, I’m personally always on the look out for alternative treatments to replace the heavy medication I take to relieve pain, something that can get to the root of the problem rather than just treat the symptoms. I admit that I was not very familiar with Shiatsu Massage, but after reading about Lucy Goldstein from Shiatsu Therapy Plus, based out of lower Bucks County, I immediately knew it was something I wanted to try. I am lucky enough to live less than 2 miles from Peace Valley, part of the Bucks County Park System. Peace Valley Park consists of 1500 acres of public land, including a 365 acre lake, Lake Galena. Over 14 miles of hiking trails afford solitude with lakeside and stream-side views at the Peace Valley Nature Center. It is my conduit to my meeting spot for my weekday cycling runs.
The slowly changing water temperature, when coupled with cool air in the mornings has made for some interesting fog formations as the fog clings to the water even over the spillway as the video below shows. (more…)
Peace Valley Lavender Farm in New Britain, Bucks Happening’s Top 10 of 2010
There are so many wonderful ways to soak in the great outdoors of Bucks County. This year alone we’ve practiced yoga in the park, biked along the canal, visited the spectacular ringing rocks, and canoed on Lake Luxembourg to name a few. One of our favorite visits, though, was the scenic trip to Peace Valley Lavender Farm. There are few better ways to spend a sunny spring morning than by taking in the fresh smell of Lavender overlooking Lake Galena. Their handmade products include lavender oil, lavender pillow sprays, and even lavender chocolates! (more…)

We’ve caught Halloween fever! In addition to the spooky decorations, haunted houses and sugar rushes, there are so many simple ways to lift your Halloween spirits. We already shared tips on how to shop for a costume and told you about some amazing costume parties (like our bash at the NAC), but here are a few simple and cheap ways to fill our weekend with holiday fun.
Watch Scary Movies - Most notably, the Halloween movies – yes all eleven of them. The original, in my opinion, still reigns supreme even with its 1978 special effects. Other great flicks include Friday the 13th, Carrie, The Shining, Psycho, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Exorcist, The Rocky Horror Picture Show or if you want to go on a softer note, It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. Thyme for Tea
We are all about Bucks County, but we figured we would let you in on a little Montgomery County secret. This beautiful Victorian secret is Thyme for Tea located in Lansdale right on Main Street. Most people drive by not even aware of this place, since it is nestled in a row of stores. I find myself a frequent customer at Thyme for Tea, unable to resist the aroma and sandwiches. This time it was for a special occasion, my sisters birthday, and the place was open just for us! I always hear owner Bonnie Porro talk about all her private parties and finally got to experience one. (more…)
By the looks of the gorgeous fall foliage around here, we are in the thick of autumn here in Bucks County. This year, it seems everyone has fall fever! And we aren’t just talking about here in the B-C (like OC, get it?…. crickets…). My friends are holding jack-0-lantern/pumpkin martini parties, planning their Halloween costume (perhaps for our bash at the NAC) and cooking up tons of fall recipes. And don’t get me wrong, we love pumpkins, we even carved our own jack-o-lantern this weekend. But pumpkins aren’t the only wonderful fall food. Last fall, I made a delicious butternut squash risotto. The wineries of Bucks County are celebrating their harvests. And, there are apples! Apples are another quintessential fall favorite that, in my opinion, is a bit overlooked this year. (more…)

Though the weather can’t decide if it’s summer or fall, we have gathered a great list of happenings to enjoy in a variety of climates. We picked a few inside and a few outside – who knows what mother nature will call for? In addition to this list, check out our Fall Guide and calendar for all the events happening throughout the season.
Today, Bucks Happening is all about taking some time to treat yourself. After all, in between back to school and meeting deadlines at work, we all deserve a little R & R. We already told you about soaking in Sundays with Spiced Apple Wine tastings at the Chaddsford Tasting room, and now there is another fabulous chance to spoil yourself this weekend.
On Saturday, October 2nd, Synergy Integrative Health is celebrating their grand re-opening by inviting their new neighbors in Doylestown to a day of free health and wellness from 11am-2pm. With services varying from skin care to massage to therapy to allergy elimination, Synergy concentrates on wellness inside and out. With their new prime location, minutes away from the center of town in Doylestown, Synergy is excited to give the community of taste of things to come. Visitors are invited to tour the facility and receive mini treatments including massages, acupuncture, and craniosacral therapy.

Apple, cinnamon & spice, like ma's apple pie.
Sundays in October are going to be delicious as Bucks County’s Chaddsford Winery Tasting Room will host Spiced Apple Sundays from 11am to 6pm every week. While fall is arguably Bucks County’s most scenic season, we don’t always find the time to take it all in. This is the perfect opportunity; take a few hours one Sunday to sip the flavors of fall.
Each Sunday throughout the month, the Chaddsford tasting room (located in Peddler’s Village) will feature a variety of wine punches, their famous Spiced Apple Wine, and Hot Caramel Apple, which is back by popular demand after last year’s debut. For a $10 fee, customers will be able to sample ALL THREE wines and then choose a glass of their favorite to enjoy in their newly renovated tasting room.
Yes- Peddler’s Village is one of Bucks County’s biggest tourist destinations (and we are so thankful that it helps bring so many people down to our beautiful part of Pennsylvania). Over the last year, however, I’ve gotten the chance to see the other side of Peddler’s Village- the side where local shop owners serve the community day in and day out. I admit that initially I was surprised to find out that so many shops in the village offer products and services that I use everyday, yet I had never considered stopping in Lahaska on a regular old weekday. I am so happy, though, that I opened my eyes and hope more people will uncover the hidden local gems within Peddler’s Village. Here are some of my favorites: (more…)
