Anyone who knows me personally knows that I danced for 25 years of my life. I spent my high school years dancing under the direction of Terri Garcia-Lee at Spirit in Motion Ballet Theater in Newtown. I loved to perform, but I also loved to teach. In my senior year of high school I taught several classes of little ones, including Terri’s daughter Paloma. The funny thing is, at that age Paloma didn’t have much interest in the stage. She loved to come to class to see her girlfriends, and she performed because, well, she had to be there anyways. Perhaps it’s because between Terri and father Jonathan Lee, also a show business professional, Paloma spent more time in theaters than most people do in their entire lives. But somewhere along the line, Paloma had a change of heart, a BIG one at that.
Flash forward to 2008, when Paloma graduated from the prestigious North Carolina School of the Arts– where Tony winners Mary Louise-Parker and Gary Beach trained. Her mother was so proud, being an alumna herself. I remember speaking to Terri on the phone, talking about how fiercely Paloma was going after dreams of Broadway. Even at the tender age of 17, she knew what she wanted. The determination paid off because in a matter of months, Paloma made her Broadway debut in The Phantom of the Opera, filling in for one of the “Ballet Chorus of the Opera Populaire” and understudy for the feature role of Meg Giry. Within one week and three rehearsals, she became a proud member of Actors Equity and was performing on a Broadway stage! (more…)
Kirk Kelly is an actor from Langhorne, PA who is off to a brilliant start in his Hollywood career. He started off working on the production side of movies like Lady in the Water & Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen but is beginning to appear on the other side of the camera. Make sure to check out The Last Airbender this July to see Kirk in a small role alongside his brother, Corbin Kelly, and tune into the NBC Drama Garza which is set to appear in NBC’s fall line up.
Recently, we sat down with Derek Vana, a talented stand-up comedian who is starting to get a lot of attention. We were immediately impressed by his casual, yet hilarious demeanor but even more impressed that he manages to simultaneously live both “outside the box” & in Point Pleasant, PA. Check out his website for more information & links to his hysterical routines. (Warning: You may get hooked into watching hours of his performances!) You can find Derek performing for FREE this Thursday, April 1st, at John & Peters in New Hope at 9pm. (more…)
Back in the day, I used to work at Sesame Place in the Entertainment Department. It was one of the most awesome jobs you can have as a teenager who loves to dance. You get paid to dance in shows and parades, it’s a great workout, it was very fun, and most of all I met tons of really awesome people. Sesame Entertainment must have a great eye for talent, as many of the “Sesame Alumni” have gone on to do a wide variety of awesome things, from TV, movies, theater, Sesame Street Live, even running Sesame Place!
One of those uber-talented people that I met back in high school was Lauren O’Keefe. Since her Sesame fame, she has gone on to be one of the members of Jada, a hot girl group signed by Universal Motown (Stevie Wonder, Nelly, Lil’ Wayne, Erykah Badu, Akon and more). I recently caught up with Lauren to interview her for BH. Read on: you are about to be “in” on the next big thing! Enjoy!!! (more…)

Remember Justin Guarini? The guy who won first runner up on American Idol Season 1? The original mom heart throb, pre-Aiken and local Bucks County native? Well Justin is still out there, doing his thing. His latest offering, in addition to his singing career, is his internet show Sketched Out.
