Can you believe we are already only two weeks away from the big turkey day? (Wait until you see our Thanksgiving day guide!) But before the hustle and bustle of the holidays (don’t worry, we’ll have you covered there, too!), take some time to enjoy the events going on in Bucks County. Also, in honor of past and present military see our Veteran’s Day Guide for special dedication events.

The Yardley-Makefield Library will host a free business seminar about social media on Wednesday, November 10 from 6-8pm
Everyone’s talking about it. But who’s doing it and doing it well? Should you be doing it, too, and can it help you make money? We’re talking about Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Foursquare – social media platforms that may be able to help you get more customers and improve your business.
If you’re wondering how something like Facebook can work for your business, check out a free program 6-8 pm this Wednesday, November 10, at the Yardley-Makefield Branch of the Bucks County Free Library, 1080 Edgewood Road, Yardley, PA 19067. (more…)

Welcome to November! With Halloween behind you, there are just a few weeks to relax before the big holiday season arrives. Get out this weekend and enjoy the last few weeks of mild autumn weather. There is always something fun and exciting to do around Bucks.

I admit it; I’m guilty of keeping old bronzers, not washing my make up brushes often enough, and de-clumping mascara with a comb (yes really). I know that these decisions are NOT smart for me or my skin, but between endless make up counters and glitzy, celebrity-filled commercials, I get a bit overwhelmed! Luckily, a new, unique store opened in the heart of Doylestown to help me make smart choices, feel smart and of course, look smart. Owner Robin Salerno opened Smart Cosmetic Studio & chose the name for a reason. She wants women to make smart makeup choices. Her goal is to provide professional advice to make you look and feel great. (more…)
In honor of Columbus Day, Bucks Happening will share a variety of articles inspired by Italian culture within Bucks County throughout this week. We’ve got lots of yummy treats in store, but first up, we spoke with Denis Chiappa, co-owner and cooking instructor from Carlow Cookery in Doylestown, PA. He teaches a variety of cooking classes including “Great Italian Cooking (Hands on)” and “Making Pasta and Gnocchi at Home.” Check out Denis’s advice for the aspiring Italian chef and try out one of his favorite recipes. Mangia! (more…)
October is all about pumpkins and Halloween but it also is the time to think pink for Breast Cancer Awareness month. It is easy to show support by simply wearing pink throughout the month. The Eagles were seen this past Sunday sporting their pink gloves and cleats. (Of course, it is also red October for the Phillies!)
So many number people have been affected by this disease one way or another. Luckily, though, there are a variety of ways to support the cause in our own community & help in the continuing fight against breast cancer. Since this month marks the official Breast Cancer Awareness month, Bucks Happening put together a guide including events, support groups, and general information about breast cancer. So many great events are happening throughout Bucks County so you can help support the cause!
Today, Bucks Happening is all about taking some time to treat yourself. After all, in between back to school and meeting deadlines at work, we all deserve a little R & R. We already told you about soaking in Sundays with Spiced Apple Wine tastings at the Chaddsford Tasting room, and now there is another fabulous chance to spoil yourself this weekend.

I have always believed in trying to preserve the past by saving what you can of historical assets. Many old and historical buildings and farms that use to dot the Bucks County Landscape are slowly disappearing to make way for large developments. Once these places are gone they can never be replaced and that part of our history is lost forever. If we could start to save just one historical site at a time we might be able to hold on to what is left of the past.
The Plumstead Historical Society was founded in 2006 by a group of Plumstead citizens who wanted to preserve the rich heritage of the Plumstead Township area. Plumstead Township is a small community of about 11,000 people just outside of Doylestown. (more…)
Tonight (well, by the time many of you read this, it will be “last night”), BH participated in the first-ever Barcamp Doylestown. Never heard of a Barcamp? Neither had we, until our friend Barry Peters looped us in. A Barcamp, otherwise known as an “UNconference,” is a crowd-sourced get together of people getting together to share ideas and information. A little less structured than a conference, a little more structured than a happy hour or networking event. (more…)
