A Taste of History at the Waterwheel

The Waterwheel in Doylestown

A few weeks back, I attended an event at the historic Waterwheel restaurant in Doylestown. Traveling down the dark Old Easton Rd., it was hard to miss the large restaurant, packed with eager patrons on a  Friday night.  Despite it’s expansive parking lot, several cars were circling the parking lot with no avail due to multiple events being held in their banquet rooms coupled with an ordinary Friday night crowd. Thanksgiving Guide

Gobble Gobble!  Thanksgiving officially marks the start of the holiday season. And since things are always hectic we figured we could make it easy by giving you the inside scoop. It’s most important to focus on all that you are thankful for, but of course that comes with a great meal and some fun activities (you know falling asleep on the couch after dinner with football in the background). Bucks County is no stranger to the tradition and there is plenty of going on.

GIVE BACK:

Black Tuesday – Make your holiday purchases early and stock up on goodies for your Thanksgiving celebration on Tuesday, November 23rd from 6-9pm! Help support local mom crafters and businesses as well as raise money for a local charity. There will be vendor tables, a basket raffle (including a BeMe Box!) and a refreshment booth. Proceeds from the raffle and refreshments go to Quilts for Kids. The event will be held at the Yardley Community Center. (more…)

Charcoal, Steak, & So Many Great Things

Charcoal, Steak, & Things

I love love love going out for breakfast.  Growing up, my family spent Sunday mornings frequenting the many diners and breakfast spots around lower Bucks County.  Even though it was a very different looking restaurant back then, Charcoal, Steak, & Things in Yardley was always a favorite breakfast destination.

Coming back to Bucks County, I was thrilled to discover the completely renovated Charcoal, Steak, & Things (now called simply Charcoal) along the Delaware in Yardley.  The building was raised, offering stunning panoramic views of the Delaware River.  The sleek and simple decor of the restaurant perfectly balances the rich beauty outside. Lumbering through Lumberville

Black Bass Hotel

The Black Bass Hotel: it boasts a piece of Bucks County history and a gorgeous Delaware River vantage point.  On a sunny Saturday afternoon, we ventured way up the Delaware for a relaxing lunch.  Lately, it had seemed that everyone was talking about the Black Bass Hotel, and I wanted to see what all of the buzz was about.

Funny thing is, for everything that I had been hearing, I guess I did not realize that the Black Bass was anything but new.  In fact, the Black Bass was built in the 1740s, under the name The Lumberville Hotel.  The original owner was a Tory, someone who was loyal to the British Crown.  He was so loyal that his advertisements often boasted that “George Washington did not sleep here.” (more…)

Taking Thyme for Tea, Montco Style

Thyme for Tea

We are all about Bucks County, but we figured we would let you in on a little Montgomery County secret. This beautiful Victorian secret is Thyme for Tea located in Lansdale right on Main Street. Most people drive by not even aware of this place, since it is nestled in a row of stores. I find myself a frequent customer at Thyme for Tea, unable to resist the aroma and sandwiches. This time it was for a special occasion, my sisters birthday, and the place was open just for us! I always hear owner Bonnie Porro talk about all her private parties and finally got to experience one. (more…)
