Apple Picking Bucks County

She loves Solebury Orchards!

By the looks of the gorgeous fall foliage around here, we are in the thick of autumn here in Bucks County.  This year, it seems everyone has fall fever!  And we aren’t just talking about here in the B-C (like OC, get it?…. crickets…).  My friends are holding jack-0-lantern/pumpkin martini parties, planning their Halloween costume (perhaps for our bash at the NAC) and cooking up tons of fall recipes. And don’t get me wrong, we love pumpkins, we even carved our own jack-o-lantern this weekend.  But pumpkins aren’t the only wonderful fall food. Last fall, I made a delicious butternut squash risotto.  The wineries of Bucks County are celebrating their harvests.  And, there are apples!  Apples are another quintessential fall favorite that, in my opinion, is a bit overlooked this year. Photo Recap: Pumpkin picking at Del Val

10/16/2010 The Market at Del Val:

Save the tatas!

October is all about pumpkins and Halloween but it also is the time to think pink for Breast Cancer Awareness month. It is easy to show support by simply wearing pink throughout the month. The Eagles were seen this past Sunday sporting their pink gloves and cleats. (Of course, it is also red October for the Phillies!)

So many number people have been affected by this disease one way or another. Luckily, though, there are a variety of ways to support the cause in our own community & help in the continuing fight against breast cancer. Since this month marks the official Breast Cancer Awareness month, Bucks Happening put together a guide including events, support groups, and general information about breast cancer. So many great events are happening throughout Bucks County so you can help support the cause!

A Local's Guide to Peddler's Village

Yes- Peddler’s Village is one of Bucks County’s biggest tourist destinations (and we are so thankful that it helps bring so many people down to our beautiful part of Pennsylvania). Over the last year, however, I’ve gotten the chance to see the other side of Peddler’s Village- the side where local shop owners serve the community day in and day out.  I admit that initially I was surprised to find out that so many shops in the village offer products and services that I use everyday, yet I had never considered stopping in Lahaska on a regular old weekday.  I am so happy, though, that I opened my eyes and hope more people will uncover the hidden local gems within Peddler’s Village. Here are some of my favorites: (more…)

A Day as an HGTV Judge

A few weeks back, Bucks Happening posted about HGTV looking for local judges to participate in a pilot episode of their new show, which happened to be taped in Bucks County.  Always ones to seek out interesting experience, the BH team immediately applied, and a few days later we were scheduled to shoot Sunday, September 19th.

We arrived “make-up ready” at the Heritage Homes in Furlong, PA where two re-designed town-homes awaited our reactions.  We were part of a crowd of about fifty local judges brought in for the episode in charge of deciding which design best appeals to it’s target-market.  The task for us was simple- walk into each home, give our opinions on each design, & vote for a favorite. Of course we were not told anything about the designers until after the votes were cast, and in true HGTV fashion there were a few other surprises in store for us. (more…)
