So, who won the Earl's Valentine's Day Give-a-Way?

Earl's Bucks County Peddler's VillageWell readers, you certainly did not make this choice an easy one.

We’d like to thank you; reading through the comments was a nice reminder of all the kind people who live around here (check them out here).  We loved reading about people’s fond memories; the couples who have been married for many years, the engagements, the return-ers to Bucks County.  We were also touched by so many people who truly do deserve a night out, from those battling illness to those who have been victims of the recession.  Peddler’s Village would especially like everyone to know how thankful they are for the many, many generous and kind comments from people who wanted to win it for someone else or who said to give it to others more deserving. A little French romance on the Delaware

Our wedding...Photo Credit: All that Glitters Photography

It’s been three years since my husband (then fiance) left New York City to become Bucks County residents.  Two months after we became official Bucks County homeowners, we got married.  We recently celebrated our third wedding anniversary.

We created a fun little tradition shortly after we got hitched:  my husband and I take turns planning our anniversary date.  It’s fun because ever other year I get to kick back and be surprised, and then I get to be the surprise-er (if that’s a word), which is really fun too.  This year happened to be my husband’s year.  For previous anniversaries, we had taken off for the weekend for little trips.  But this year marks our first “Bucks County celebrated” anniversary.

Well, my hubby did a great job.  We started with a pre-dinner cocktail at the Boat House.  We sat outside and enjoyed the scenery for a drink before heading on to dinner. I will give you a couple hints:  It’s a BYOB, it has been around since the 1700s (in its current reincarnation since the 70s), and is “très romantique.”  Did you guess?

Bucks Happening this Week

On a weekly basis in Bucks County, there is always something fun to do.  There are two themes that we decided to highlight this week; cultural fun and free fun.  As most members of Bucks can attest to, there is plenty of culture and history to each and every town.  Two really great events really jumped out at us this week, the New Hope Arts and Biergarten Evening.  We are certainly looking forward to a fantastic weekend.  Free movies and shows at TD Bank Ampitheatre and Sellersville theatre will keep families and friends entertained during the first week back to school.  Enjoy the last weekend of summer and keep the fun going for the kids as they get back into the classrooms! Live, Laugh, & Love Eating Ice Cream

Every Thursday, Uncle Dave’s Ice Cream hosts $0.94 cone night, and as if that isn’t enough of a reason to get excited, their famous Pumpkin Ice Cream just made it’s 2010 debut.  We could feel the excitement in the air. Last Thursday, we decided to crash the party at their Shady Brook Farm location where we talked to ice cream lovers big & small and got the inside scoop on Uncle Dave’s.

Take a Biplane ride over Philadelphia

Plane ride bucks countyThere have been so many times that I have seen the beautiful Philadelphia skyline on TV, perfectly captured by a helicopter or plane or even a blimp.  While high-def TVs work wonders, nothing can replace the real experience of seeing the city from above.  Biplane rides over Philadelphia is offering just that, an opportunity to hop into the open air cockpit of a famous World War II Stearman biplane called the Cannibal Queen. The Cannibal Queen brings its passengers closer to the top of Liberty One than ever before.

Wine Down at Shady Brook

Our Perfect Wine Concert Picnic

Every Friday night, the always bustling Shady Brook Farm turns into an end-of-the-work-week oasis with their free outdoor wine concerts.  As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, we felt the fun, relaxing vibe radiating from the fields.  Laughter and conversation hummed through the air atop a set of throwback jams belted by The Brian DiBiagio Band.

Part of the reason that the crowd is able to truly kick back & relax is that Shady Brook provides a one-stop shop for everything you could want to enjoy an evening among friends.  There are a wide variety of Rose Bank wines available to sample; we decided on a crisp bottle of Vidal Blanc.  Burgers & hot dogs are sold hot off the grill while farm favorites like corn in the cob are fresh for the picking. The Market at Shady Brook provides tons of other options for fresh food and sandwiches while Uncle Dave’s Ice Cream provides dessert.  (more…)

Stephanie's in Doylestown

Last week I went to Stephanie’s to watch the Phils and drink some good beer.  This sports bar and grill located at the heart of Doylestown offers a lot of fun activities throughout the week.  After a rough start to my day, I just wanted to unwind but when I got there, I had a change of heart.  With 36 different draft beers on tap I couldn’t help but expand my knowledge of fine microbrews.  This all while playing Wednesday Philly sports trivia and watching the Phils.  Needless to say my evening took a turn for the better.

MAN THINGS-John’s Barber Shop

In my brief 23 years of life on this beautiful planet, I have made three generally poor assumptions; 1: women will flock to me because I think they will 2. Employers will jump at the chance to have me even though they don’t know me, and 3. I’m extraordinarily good looking.  Yes, I have fooled some with my charm and unenviable perseverance, but the truth of the matter is no man is safe behind the merit of his words.  What really resonates in the ear of “I’m out of your league” ladies, “you’re a bit under-qualified” employers, and even your own wishful thinking has always been a clean haircut.  Yes, a haircut.  You may say to yourself, “I like my haircuts. They do a good job”.  At first glance this may be true, but the overall experience when getting a cut can make a world of difference.  John’s Barber Shop in Newtown, PA makes that world of difference.

A Puckin' Awesome Time

There are few things in life that I have come to enjoy more than summer nights, cold beer, my Philadelphia Phillies, and good tunes.  I have had the pleasure of enjoying these personal favorites quite often.  Friday night, I decided to test out the Doylestown scene; I wanted to find a place where these passions could lie.  Now, I must admit that I have not made the short travel from Richboro into “D-Town” very often.  To me, it has always been that place that you think about later on and you say to yourself, “Oh man, we should have gone to Doylestown this weekend.”  When I have found myself in this situation, I have always tried to rectify my decision with poor excuses.  “I don’t really know the area” or “I’m not sure what kind of scene it is” are typical.  Well, there are no more excuses from me.  I could not have asked for anything else after Puck in Doylestown brought all those passions together all at once.
