Fall Beauty at KOP Nordstrom’s

Nordstrom Beauty King of Prussia MallPeople who know me well know I am not exactly a morning person, and I’m a total night owl (totally opposite of my husband, who is out of bed before 6 AM and almost catatonic directly following dinner LOL).   But this past Saturday, exception was necessary for the Nordstrom Beauty Fall Cosmetics Trend Show (follow them on Facebook and Twitter). Doors opened at 7AM, so me and my beauty-loving friends Danielle and Lisa (check out Lisa’s beauty and fitness blog) sucked it up in the name of beauty.

The smart way to look younger

I admit it; I’m guilty of keeping old bronzers, not washing my make up brushes often enough, and de-clumping mascara with a comb (yes really).  I know that these decisions are NOT smart for me or my skin, but between endless make up counters and glitzy, celebrity-filled commercials, I get a bit overwhelmed!  Luckily, a new, unique store opened in the heart of Doylestown to help me make smart choices, feel smart and of course, look smart. Owner Robin Salerno opened Smart Cosmetic Studio & chose the name for a reason. She wants women to make smart makeup choices. Her goal is to provide professional advice to make you look and feel great. (more…)

Save the tatas!

October is all about pumpkins and Halloween but it also is the time to think pink for Breast Cancer Awareness month. It is easy to show support by simply wearing pink throughout the month. The Eagles were seen this past Sunday sporting their pink gloves and cleats. (Of course, it is also red October for the Phillies!)

So many number people have been affected by this disease one way or another. Luckily, though, there are a variety of ways to support the cause in our own community & help in the continuing fight against breast cancer. Since this month marks the official Breast Cancer Awareness month, Bucks Happening put together a guide including events, support groups, and general information about breast cancer. So many great events are happening throughout Bucks County so you can help support the cause!

Recycle your dress

Nicole Kulp sits peacefully in the top of an old barn, sunlight beaming in on a warm fall afternoon. It’s the perfect space to get work done and do what you love,  in Nicole’s case, that’s recycling dresses. Seems like an easy enough concept, but Nicole spends a countless number of hours revamping dresses in addition to her full time career as an office manager. Sewing has been a passion of Nicole’s since the age of ten, when her mother and grandmother began teaching her how to work a needle while growing up in Bedminster.

The idea of recycling dresses came about after her closet was full of unused bridesmaids dresses. Why not redo the design and turn them into something more useful? Before she knew it, Nicole was gaining clients left and right. Initially she was recycling dresses as a hobby but it quickly grew into a business in 2006, when it officially became Recycle My Dress. Nicole has many local clients as well as clients from California and Texas! Many people send dresses to Nicole from all over because of her talent and ability to really change the design of a dress.

Extreme Scarecrow Building

Over the last month, Bucks Happening has seen a lot of fantastic scarecrow building and even gave it a shot ourselves. We can now truly appreciate the skills needed to create an exceptional crow. Well, Ellen Baur and Denny Rosanski of Pittsburg, PA have a winning formula; Ellen comes up with the super-creative ideas and Denny executes them flawlessly.  Ellen first entered the scarecrow competition 25 years ago and had such fond memories that she decided to restart the tradition last year. Ellen & Danny began building their masterpieces in February, collecting the perfect parts to turn their visions into festive crows such as a toilet seat, gypsy ball, and even a steering wheel from a child’s play-set.   Then, after getting their crows just right, Ellen & Danny take them apart, make the five hour drive to Lahaska, and put them back together again at Peddler’s Village. Talk about dedication! (more…)

Wash Tyme-Cleaning with Meaning

Recycle, Repurpose, Reuse—for the people of WashTyme soaps, these are words to live by.  In a world that has become so blinded by how efficient we can be, we forget sometimes how important it is to consider the products we are using and what processes were used to make said products.  In many cases, there may be only one possible resource to make a product.  In most, however, recycled materials can be used to create very useful, everyday materials.  Wash Tyme is one of those products.
