Mustaches. They’re not just for Tom Selleck and hipsters anymore.
The Doylestown Historical Society is hosting an ‘old-style’ mustache contest. They are looking for the best one in town: handlebar, waxed, or otherwise. The deadline for this extreme event is Memorial Day (May 28, 2012). The reason for that deadline is that contestants are invited to sport their ‘staches while marching in Doylestown’s famed Memorial Day Parade (the oldest Memorial Day Parade in the country, by the way).
Last Thursday, April 26th, over 300 people came to Occasions in New Hope, PA to celebrate the most happening people, places, events, and businesses of Bucks County- making for one hell of a happening party!
Bucks Happening held the First Annual Happening List Red Carpet Bash to commemorate the finalists and winners of the 2012 Happening List. Winners, finalists, and guests made grand entrances on the red carpet, with photographers and videographers on site to capture the excitement.
Occasions/Memorable Affairs delivered a delicious array of passed hors d’oeuvres while the team from Jamie Hollander, the 2012 winner of the “Most Happening Caterer,” provided a beautiful crudite display table, highlighting their work with Heritage Conservancy’s Farm to Table event (winner of “Most Happening Foodie Event”). While the attendees sipped on their Russian Standard signature cocktails, Brooke Shive & the 45s, winner of the “Most Happening Musician/Band” took the stage twice to perform a few popular hits off of their new album. Do you have any truck or tractor enthusiasts in the family? Do your kids like bulldozers, snow plows or fire engines? This weekend could be the perfect opportunity to let your children experience what it’s like to sit behind the wheel of these big machines (in a safe environment, of course). Sit in the seat, honk the horn and check out the interior of your favorite large vehicles – all in one place!
This Saturday (May 5th), Doylestown Township will host its annual “Touch-A-Truck” Event at Central Park. (more…)
Believe it or not,
Mother’s Day is just around the corner. If you’re looking for a special way to celebrate with your mom this year, why not skip the flowers and treat your mother to what she really wants, an afternoon together!
The Event:
From 1pm to 4pm on Saturday, May 5, 2012, the Bucks County Housing Group (BCHG) is hosting The Mother’s Day Tea at Tyler Mansion (on the grounds of Bucks County Community College). This special open house event, sponsored by the William Penn Bank, is perfect for family or friends of all ages.
This weekend marks the 31st annual Shad Fest in Lambertville. The festival began in 1981 as a method of highlighting the great local art that Lambertville and New Hope have to offer. It coincided with the first blooms of Spring and the annual shad run. The festival has grown from a local celebration to an award-winning regional event.
OK, so first things first: What is a shad? The American Shad is the largest fish in the herring family. Every spring, shad migrate from salt water to fresh water to reproduce. Fishermen call this the “annual spring shad run.”
Shad Fest offers a fantastic variety of family, fun, art, food, culture, and (yes) shad. (It’s OK if you don’t like seafood, because there is a great variety of food at the fest!)
While A-Day is a pretty amazing event (check out our post about it here), maybe you’re looking for something else to do. Check out our guide for Thursday, April 26th, 2012 – Sunday, April 29th, 2012 below. We have included some of the best events happening in Bucks County this weekend. Also, make sure to check out more fun things to do on our sortable calendar of events & restaurant guide.
The First Annual 2012 Happening List Bash

7:00pm – 11:00pm
We’re partying in style, rolling out the red carpet to celebrate the 2012 Happening List at Occassions! We’re celebrating all of the 2012 Happening list winners and finalists! Our event is open to the public but space is limited so hope you’ve booked your tickets early. While there is no official dress code, you should be dressed to impress on the red carpet!
If you have lived in Bucks County for any amount of time, you may know that we have a number of great resources available to help us make healthy choices and stay fit. One such resource, The Cornerstone Clubs, recently saw an opportunity to give back and proved that great things can be done with the help of a supportive community.

May 12th is National Train Day, where Americans are encouraged to celebrate the sense and experience of train travel. Bucks County is fortunate to have a number of great railways that still offer travelers the experience and convenience of taking the train every single day. Coincidentally, the headquarters for Bucks Happening sits nearly next door the New Hope Train, and we have developed quite an affinity for its sights, sounds, and staff. (more…)
Beginning May 25th, New Hope & Lambertville will host the kickoff to its 3rd season of Friday Night Fireworks. The annual event, put on by the New Hope & Lambertville Chambers Of Commerce, has become a huge hit among locals. Each week, the celebration draws a sizable crowd of individuals and families looking to kick off their warm summer weekends with a bang (pun intended, but someone had to say it!) We have really enjoyed this event each year – it really brings the town together and it helps to make the summer weekends at little more festive.
Since 1949, the people of Bucks County [and beyond] have flocked to Delaware Valley College for an event known as A-Day. For those who don’t know, A-Day [short for Activities Day] is a three-day sanctioned state fair held in the spring at Delaware Valley College.
You may have noticed a new restaurant taking shape in the center of Doylestown. The flavors of the Caribbean are making their way into the fantastic variety of cuisine that the County seat currently offers. The owners and staff at The Sweet Spot have been hard at work, getting things ready for its big opening – slated for this coming Monday (April 23rd). We were fortunate to have the opportunity to speak with one of the restaurant’s managers and get the inside scoop on the new restaurant and how it has all been coming together.
