Every 6 years, I have to take a National Re-Certifying Exam for my profession. This year, it turned out to be in 2011 or 2012. I wanted to take it in 2011, because if I failed, I had 2 chances to it in 2012. I scheduled my exam for Dec. 19, as to avoid my daughter’s birthday and our move into our new house, thinking I would be able to get everything ready for Christmas. Getting ready for Christmas is stressful enough, but add the stress and studying for a national exam on top of it….I was very stressed to say the least. I took my exam on the 19th and on the 21st, I got my result…I had passed! I was thrilled and was now able to have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

I worked for the same company for 31 years. In November we parted ways. Like so many others, not having a job at Christmas is a stressful situation. The support of friends and family was tremendous. It has been a big change but, it is also an opportunity to try something new. A massage would be a great way to start this new chapter in my life. Also this Friday, 1/20 is not only the day the winner will be selected it is also my 50th birthday.

This was the first Christmas me and my son had to spend alone after my husband of 24 years was tragically killed a year a go. Every Xmas song, tree, and decoration made me cry while trying to keep a smile on my face. The holiday season could not be over quick enough!!!

Something stressful about my holiday this year? Well my wife an I just learned we are expected our first child about Thanksgiving time. So we wanted to keep it a surprise until Christmas which is easier said than done! We ended up making t-shirts and wrapping them each separate with things like “Grandpa in training” or “World’s best uncle” and having everyone open them at the same time. What fun! Keeping a tight lip about the whole thing was no easy task, we’re the first of my family (5 siblings) to have a child so this was BIG news!

  5. MY MOM says:

My parents have been stressed out to the max with a sibling who is battling drug addiction for the past 10 years. My stepmom has to take care of my dad, work on her feet all day with bad knees, all the while trying to help my sibling. Christmas was especially difficult….but I dont want her to see this post…so I can’t embellish….they are very humble and private…….

I have a crazy Uncle Tom! ’nuff said!

  7. Olivia says:

Let’s just say I need several glasses of wine to make it through some family dinners!

My Grandfather (aka Djadek) has alzheimers and each time we see him, even weeks or only a few months apart, he declines significantly. My grandmother (aka Babcia) had Thanksgiving this year at their house. It was hard to see the overall stress she is experiencing and even harder to see my Djadek declining. Aweful disease. I try to remember his stories, the adorable comments he would make about loving my grandmother, and kidding with him about his nickname ACE despite the increasing blank look and detachment as his alzheimers progresses. :(
