Happening Women: Maria Calasso

The final feature in our series of Happening Women in March is Maria Calasso.  She is the owner of a beautiful little spa called Sublime (located just off Richboro Road in Newtown).  The first floor offers standard salon services, while the second floor boasts a full service spa, complete with massage rooms and pedicure stations.  Though obviously busy, the staff was immediately warm and attentive to me as I walked in.  I sat down with Marian to find out more about her business and the things that inspire her.

Happening Women: Dr. Annie Buinewicz

Upon arriving at Dr. Buinewicz’s offices in Buckingham, I relaxed into their spacious conference room, eager to meet the woman behind one of the premier medical spas in Bucks County.  The environment was both chic and cozy, a welcome setting to those looking to embrace wellness and beauty.

For over twenty years, Annie Buinewicz has been practicing medicine, with many of those years spent building Buinewicz Plastic Surgery and Le Medspa which she operates alongside her husband in both Buckingham and Flemington. As part of our March Happening Women series, we sat down with Annie to find out about her 24 years of experience in medicine, why she chose to specialize in cosmetics, and what it’s been like to build a business while raising three boys.

BH: I understand that you started off your career as a Medical Director at a major pharmaceutical company.  What inspired you to make the transition to work with a local cosmetic enhancement business?

AB: Well, professionally, I loved the idea of making people feel better about themselves.  Bucks County isn’t Beverly Hills; our patients are often receiving procedures that have a major impact on their lives- acne treatment for the self-conscious teenager, rhinoplasty for a young adult who never had a broken nose properly set, Ultherapy to help an older executive gain confidence before a big interview. Fitness Tip of the Month: TRX & SMRT-Core

We expect a lot from our bodies. Even those of us who work hard to stay in shape are at risk of injury, over-training or just a lack of motivation. As we arrive at the start of spring, people are ready to jump back into beach-ready shape after a long winter of abuse.

To help unlock potential, fitness clubs around the country have found a new training method with TRX suspension training and SMRT-CORE techniques.  This power workout allows the body to react as a unit, its muscle groups working together to move you forward – faster and with less struggle. (more…)

Happening Women in March: Barbara Panno

Throughout the month of March, we are highlighting some of Buck County’s most Happening Women.  This week’s featured Happening Woman is Barbara Panno.  She owns Keeping In Touch Bodywork and Massage Therapy in Doylestown.  It’s a beautiful little practice just around the corner from the famed County Theater.  We recently sat down with Barbara to talk with her about her business and her inspirations.

BH: Barbara, thank you for chatting with us today.  What initially made you want to start your own business?

BP: What really drove me to start my own business was the amount of knowledge and ideas I had about this type of work. I wanted to express them in a unique way and begin sharing its value with my clients.

Turning Yoga on its Head: AcroYoga Arrives in Lambertville

AcroyogaWhen you’re a little kid, there are few things more exhilarating than playing “superman”, flying high on your mom or dad’s feet. Then later, as an adult, you find a zen state of mind in the ritual of yoga. Now, imagine if you could combine those two blissful states of mind…

That unique combination is the latest fitness craze to sweep the country- AcroYoga, a mixture of traditional yoga, Thai massage, and acrobatics. The scope of the practice is broad and includes circle ceremony, asana, partner flow, Thai massage, therapeutic flying, dynamic (acrobatic flying), inversions & spotting, and partner balancing.  In addition to the physical & mental benefits, the unique aspect of working with a partner cultivates trust, connection, & playfulness.

With the practice of AcroYoga less than a decade old, finding a studio that specializes in this practice is a challenge. Lucky for us, however, there are two AcroYoga classes held every week in Lambertville. (more…)

Wellness Tip with Gardner Family Chiropractic

Is it bad to “crack” your back or neck a lot?

GFC: This question is frequently asked because people associate the “cracking” or “popping” of one’s back or neck with a chiropractic adjustment. The two are not the same thing. If a person has a desire to “crack” his/her neck or back it is often because one area of their spine is fixated or jammed causing another area to move too much and “pop”, sometimes by itself. It’s the fixated or jammed area that needs to be properly adjusted by a chiropractor so that the other parts of the spine will not be hypermobile and noisy. When you “crack” your back you may be relieving the tension for a little while. Do you notice how it keeps coming back? That is because you are not giving yourself a specific chiropractic adjustment.  (more…)
