It is the only body you have, we are here to help you take great care of it.

It’s official- with just a few weeks left until Labor Day, summer is officially winding down. Did you take advantage of the season this year?
Well, if not, there are still a few more weeks to squeeze in some last minute summer fun before cooler temps and back to school season arrives.
Check out 4 suggestions to make the most out of these the last few weeks of summer in Bucks County: (more…)
Though I have no doubt spent hours admiring the picturesque Delaware River in my 20+ years spent living in Bucks County, until recently I had not participated in one of the most popular local river activities- tubing!
Held back by irrational fears of encountering ugly river creatures, I had always opted to enjoy the view from one of the many river-front dining establishments in Bucks County. Having finally taken the plunge (quite literally!), I am certain that even the most beautiful of outdoor patios along the river cannot compare with the stunning 360 degree view experienced from an inflatable tube! After a Facebook book poll and suggestions from eager readers, the first official Bucks Happening Book Club pick is….
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen.
The New York Times describes Gruen’s novel as, “A terrific revelation for the final pages, transforming a glimpse of Americana into an enchanting escapist fairy tale.begins violently and then veers into weirder terrain.”
New York Times Description:
Jacob Jankowski, a veterinary student at Cornell, discovers that his parents have been killed in a car accident. Aimless and distraught, he climbs aboard a train that happens to be carrying the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth, and inveigles a job as an animal doctor. His responsibilities draw him into the unpredictable orbit of August Rosenbluth, the circus’s mercurial menagerie director, and his beautiful wife, Marlena, whose equestrian act attracts enthusiastic crowds. The only thing better than a great read is sharing it with others; that’s why we’re starting a Bucks Happening Book Club! Bucks County has amazing local libraries, fantastic book stores; and tons of relaxing spots around town to melt into a good book.
Here’s how it will work:
1) We’ll pick a book every other month- January, March, May, July, September, & November- and post it on BucksHappening.com.
2) The following month (February, April, June, August, October, & December), Bucks Happening will share an online review of the book AND set a date for online discussions via BucksHappening.com & social media outlets.
3) Plus, we’ll plan some awesome live events around Bucks for readers to attend through the year where we can mingle, discuss, & perhaps enjoy some delicious coffee or cocktails!
We know people are busy so you’re welcome to come & go as you please. However, if you’d like to receive email updates for all Book Club related activities, please comment on this post. Suggestions for the first ever Bucks Happening Book Club pick are welcome!
No matter the day, no matter the Bucks County town, they exist. The women in their fashionable garb, the men slightly less interested in what they are wearing (but not always!). Super tone legs and butt. The tennis players!!
The obsession is alive and well here. Some of my Bucks County tennis player friends have told me they “work to support their tennis habit.” Some belong to multiple indoor and outdoor leagues throughout the year. Others play privately in their own courts. Friendships are made. Rivalries are made. But one thing is for sure, Bucks County tennis is a whole different animal.
As players ramp up for spring tennis, our friends over at 40 Love Pro Shop (they are right across from the Starbucks on State Street in Doylestown) wanted to share 3 easy injury prevention tips with everyone. Bucks County young natives Maria Paone & John Curry are passionate about the game, and it shows through in their new business. (more…)
At Bucks Happening, we’re always looking for ways to improve our health and wellness. We’ve tried acupuncture, a variety of exercise activities all around Bucks County, and our most recent adventure- a dietary cleanse. Suffering from frequent migraine headaches, I’m personally always on the look out for alternative treatments to replace the heavy medication I take to relieve pain, something that can get to the root of the problem rather than just treat the symptoms. I admit that I was not very familiar with Shiatsu Massage, but after reading about Lucy Goldstein from Shiatsu Therapy Plus, based out of lower Bucks County, I immediately knew it was something I wanted to try. I am lucky enough to live less than 2 miles from Peace Valley, part of the Bucks County Park System. Peace Valley Park consists of 1500 acres of public land, including a 365 acre lake, Lake Galena. Over 14 miles of hiking trails afford solitude with lakeside and stream-side views at the Peace Valley Nature Center. It is my conduit to my meeting spot for my weekday cycling runs.
The slowly changing water temperature, when coupled with cool air in the mornings has made for some interesting fog formations as the fog clings to the water even over the spillway as the video below shows. (more…)
