You can run, but can you Hog n’ Jog?

With National Ice Cream Day around the corner, what better way to celebrate than with a jog?

This year’s Jog n’ Hog lands on July 15th and for readers who do not know, it is a 4 mile run with a break halfway through for a quart of Uncle Dave’s Ice Cream. The fitness and food combination event is happening at Shady Brook Farm. Participants should be prepared to run on dirt roads. Racers are also asked to bring one non-perishable food item for the Bucks County Housing Groups Penndel Food Pantry.

Along with the main event, there is a child-friendly version of the Jog ‘n Hog for participants under the age of 13. Simply replace the 4 miles with 200 yards and the quart of ice cream with three ounces of ice cream, and you’re all set! (more…)

Coming Soon: The Vault Brewing Company

A few weeks ago, in our New Beer’s Eve feature, we mentioned the news of a new craft brewery coming soon to Yardley.  Two brothers, James and John Cain (JJC), have leased the former Bank Of America building on Main Street in Yardley with the intention of establishing The Vault Brewing Company.  Their plans have been approved by the township and they are on track to open towards the end of the 2012 summer.

Walking through the unfinished space, as John told me about the plans for each area, was exciting.  They have a very clear vision for their new brewery.  The building is in a prime spot on Main Street and the owners are clearly putting a lot of work into creating a great experience for their patrons.  They emphasized their intention of respecting the history of the building and integrating that history into their brand.  One thing is for sure: after speaking with James and John about their plans, we are seriously looking forward to the potential of the future Yardley hot spot.

New Beer’s Eve and New Bucks Breweries

Happy New Beer’s Eve everyone!  Wait, what?  OK, OK, first, a little history: The unofficial holiday of “New Beer’s Eve” is held every year on April 6th.  It commemorates the official end of prohibition in 1933.  On March 23, 1933, the Cullen-Harrison Act was signed in to law by president Franklin D. Roosevelt – making it legal to sell beer again beginning on April 7th of that same year.  As a result, people gathered in lines around breweries and taverns on the evening of April 6th in great anticipation of the legal purchase and consumption of beer for the first time in 13 years.  According to our extensive research, people have since referred to the day as “New Beer’s Eve.”

You may have noticed that we, at Bucks Happening, like our beer.  We often highlight new brews coming to town, seasonal offerings, and tap takeovers.  So we thought it fitting to officially highlight this unofficial holiday and….take the opportunity to talk more about some new brews coming to town.
