There are few things more exciting than driving around during the holiday season to look at all of the beautifully decorated homes. And this year it’s getting even more exciting with the Bucks Happening Holiday Lights Contest!
It’s simple, send in your Bucks County holiday home photos to contest@buckshappening.com along with contact information- including name, phone number, and address (we won’t share your exact address with viewers, just towns).
We’ll post the pictures on our website and the photo with the most votes by midnight on 12/29 wins a $100 gift certificate to Montgomery Mall (perfect for some last minute gifts)! Just outside Bucks County, Montgomery Mall features four department stores, JCPenney, Macy’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Sears along with 150 specialty shops including Hollister, Gap, and LOFT. One thing that I love about the holidays is finding the perfect gift for my loved ones, knowing I will see huge smiles on their faces when they unwrap their big surprises. In my opinion, giving is even more fun that getting!
While shopping during the holidays can be lots of fun, it can also turn into a frustrating experience when the perfect presents are hard to find. Luckily, there are so many fabulously unique shops and talented craftsman in Bucks County to make the search more fun. In addition to fueling our communities, local shops offer the personal service and care to take the stress out of shopping.
This year, take a look at the Bucks Happening Holiday Gift Guide to find those extra-special gifts to make 2010 the best holiday yet! (more…)

While food may be the star of Thanksgiving Day, an extra special array of drinks can greatly enhance the holiday. In Bucks, we are lucky to be surrounded by a trail of local vineyards with fine, hand-crafted wines. Scattered across the county, you can find just about any type of wine to pair with your meal- dry, sweet, white, red.
Best of all, as Thanksgiving marks the end of the harvest season, it makes perfect sense to mark the occasion with one of Bucks County’s newly released harvest wines. Read more about Harvest Wines and other popular pairing options for Thanksgiving dinner as recommended by local experts. (more…)

Don't forget to change your clocks!
It’s that time of year again, to “fall back.” Officially you can change your clocks back one hour, this Sunday, November 7th. But what is all the history behind daylight savings time? Most of us (myself included) probably have no clue of its history and fun facts! Well, I decided it was about time to do some investigating.
Daylight savings time was actually not enacted until March 19, 1918 but proved to be “unpopular” due to people waking up earlier and going to bed earlier. For years and years, daylight savings time was very inconsistent and became an option to cities and states. Can you imagine the confusion? Even with the Interstate Commerce Commission getting involved in the early 60′s, because would still not follow the rules. Farmers debated the issues, and state governments could not agree. (more…)

Bats. We usually associate bats with Halloween, vampires, attics and even Batman himself. Unfortunately, Hollywood has misconstrued the real benefit of bats. The little brown bat eats roughly 4,500 bugs a night. With over 1 million bats being effected by White Nose Syndrome, that’s roughly 4,500,000,000 extra bugs you have to worry about crawling into your house, destroying crops, or biting you. So why is everyone scared of these little non-aggressive creatures that help so much?
