Women in Business: Linda Shick of Doylestown’s Naftulin & Shick

Linda Shick Natfulin

Linda Shick

Bucks County is known for having some pretty dangerous roads and intersections. If you’ve ever navigated the many intersections of Street Road during rush hour, or driven down the windy, wooded back roads of Central and Upper Bucks, you know the potential dangers: distracted drivers, deer, dark roads, etc. No one is more aware of these dangers than Attorney Linda Shick, who has dedicated her whole life to litigating accident cases where people have been hurt through no fault of their own.

Linda is a partner with Naftulin& Shick, a personal injury law firm located right in Doylestown, Bucks County. A graduate of C.B. West High School, she received her JD from Rutgers University School of Law in New Jersey. She’s currently a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association as well as the Bucks County Bar Association.

Linda represents hundreds of people in Bucks County (and surrounding counties) who are injured due to car collisions, workplace accidents, vicious animals, negligent property owners, construction accidents, and careless truck drivers. She helps victims recover their lives back and get back on their feet in the aftermath. (more…)

Single in the Suburbs: The Perfect Second Date

What’s it like being a single, twenty-something, gal dating in Bucks County? Follow Single in the Suburbs as she takes us on her dating (mis)adventures! For more fun in between articles, follow her on Twitter.

Are you starting the year with a “brand new you” like I always tell myself I’m going to do and then forget about by this time? Don’t worry, I’m not going to post any tips on resolutions or what you should do to change yourself. I’m sure you’ve read enough of that by now. What I’m really excited about for 2012 is the movie line-up. After receiving my weekly email from the County Theater in Doylestown, I’ve become very excited for the upcoming films – The Artist, The Iron Lady, Melancholia among many more! (Also, The Dark Knight Rises in the summer!!!)

This got me thinking about one of my favorite movie dates. It was with a Princeton grad and we saw Black Swan, which was excellent, in my opinion. (more…)

Local Love Story Brought to You by The Inn at Bowman’s Hill

Michael & Rachel, A Local Love Story

Michael and Rachel are both 2003 graduates of Central Bucks East High School, but did not start dating until six years later, after they were both employed at Windmill Day School and Camp in Doylestown. Michael did landscaping at the camp every year since the age of 16; Rachel taught horseback riding classes for just one summer.

BH: Let’s start at the beginning. How does your love story begin?

Michael: To say that we “acquainted ourselves” at Windmill is accurate, but glosses over an important fact: I got to know Rachel after she risked my life on those hallowed grounds.

In her first week of work at Windmill, Rachel thought it prudent to ride one of the ponies bareback. If you guessed that this lead to an emergency room visit complete with broken bones, you are correct. The call on the walkie-talkie was, “This is NOT a drill, any available hands to the horse ring.” I didn’t hear the call as I was dutifully weed whacking the ropes course. Meanwhile, Windmill’s resident superman and first aid guru, Bobby, somehow DID hear the call over the sound of the Kubota front-end loader and immediately leapt into action; racing across camp towards the horse barn where Rachel lay — wrist in splinters. Improve your Flow in 2012: Tai Chi Classes in Doylestown

Is your New Year’s resolution to get in shape? Get control of stress? Or even to simply take on a new activity?  Well, the International School of Shiatsu, which has been around since 1978, will host Tai Chi classes with Rolly Brown in Doylestown beginning Monday, January 16, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. for 10 weeks.

Developed in China over one thousand years ago, Tai Chi movements are graceful, powerful, relaxed, balanced and meditative. This system has long been used for exercise, meditation, and self defense. Each movement works at merging relaxation, breathing, and body alignment to improve balance, flexibility and strength while relieving tension and stress.

Tai Chi instructor Rolly Brown has studied Tai Chi since the mid ‘70s, and taught in Bucks County since 1986.  He is also an acupuncturist with over 20 years experience, and, at ISS, teaches Tai Chi and Oriental Medicine. Brown studied with several of the most renowned masters to come to the West, but most principally with Grandmaster William C.C. Chen, whom he calls “one of the most famous and influential Tai Chi masters of our generation.”

Brown’s method emphasizes “the subtle principles of relaxation which make Tai Chi a profound vehicle for the promotion of health and longevity.” This first series of one hour classes will focus on beginning to teach the 60 movement slow motion form Brown learned from Grandmaster Chen, which is much like a carefully orchestrated musical score for the body.
